Board of directors

The Seriti Resources and Seriti Green boards play a central role in guiding the Group’s strategic direction, ensuring that management upholds the long-term interests of all key stakeholders. As the highest decision-making authority, the respective boards remain collectively accountable for the Group’s performance and governance.

To ensure effective oversight, the roles of the chairpersons and chief executive officers of Seriti Resources and Seriti Green remain separate, with clearly defined responsibilities that support balanced governance and strategic accountability across both entities.

Sandile Zungu

Chairperson and Non-Executive Director

Qualification: BSc (Mechanical Engineering), MBA

Sandile Zungu is the founder and chairman of Zungu Investments, a diversified investment holding company with interests in various sectors (including education, energy, mining, pharmaceuticals, property, and sports). He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and a Master of Business Administration from the UCT Graduate School of Business. He obtained the Program for Global Leadership certificate from the Harvard Business School in the US, and previously served on the presidential BBBEE Advisory Council and was president of the Black Business Council.


Mike Teke

Group CEO and Executive Director

Qualification: BA (Hons), BEd, MBA

Mike is the Chairperson and controlling shareholder of Masimong Group Holdings (Pty) Ltd. He also serves as Chairperson and Non-Executive Director of Anchor Group Ltd. He is a former President of the Minerals Council South Africa and continues to serve on its council. Mike is also a past Chairperson of the University of Johannesburg Council.



Dr Anna Mokgokong

Non-Executive Director

Qualification: BSc, MBChB, DCom (HC)

Dr Anna Mokgokong is the co‑founder and executive chairperson of Community Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd, and is chancellor of North-West University. She has extensive experience in healthcare, academia and commerce. She serves on the boards of listed and unlisted entities as well as councils of academic institutions and civil society commissions. As a social activist, she is passionate about empowering women and creating economic equality in South Africa. She is honorary consul-general for the government of Iceland in Pretoria. Anna  is a multi-award winner, with local and global titles and, most recently, received the 2022 Women Who Make a Difference award from International Women’s Forum South Africa.


Godfrey Gomwe

Non-Executive Director

Qualification: BAcc, MBL

Godfrey has extensive experience as an executive in the metals and mining industry and is the former CEO of MC Mining Ltd, and of Anglo American plc’s thermal coal business, where he oversaw the manganese interests in the joint venture with BHP. He was an executive director of Anglo American South Africa until August 2012. Godfrey’s roles with the company included head of group business development in Africa, finance director, chief operating officer, and chairperson and CEO of Anglo American Zimbabwe Ltd. He also served on various group executive committees as well as the operating boards of Kumba Iron Ore Ltd, Anglo American Platinum Ltd, Highveld Steel and Vanadium Ltd (chairperson) and Mondi South Africa (Pty) Ltd (chairperson). Godfrey serves on several listed and unlisted boards, including Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Ltd, Orion Minerals Ltd, Tshikululu Social Investments NPC and Thebe Investment Corporation (Pty) Ltd (including chair of its energy and resources advisory council).

Group structure

Seriti is co-owned by five leading black shareholders.

With Sandile Zungu as chairperson and Mike Teke as CEO, the group is directed by a board and management team who collectively have significant and relevant experience in the acquisition, operation, and development of large-scale coal operations.

CIH Pty Ltd

Community Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd – 23%

Industry veterans Dr. Anna Mokgokong and Joe Madungandaba lead CIH Projects – a 100% black-owned conglomerate focusing on mining, energy, healthcare, information and communications technology, infrastructure and logistics.

Thebe Investment Corporation – 23%

Sizwe Mncwango leads Thebe, one of South Africa’s leading black-controlled investment companies with significant energy and mining services interests.

Masimong – 23%

Mike Teke and Doug Gain, who have extensive experience operating coal mines, lead Masimong, a broad-based, black-owned and controlled investment company focusing on mining, industrials, financial services, and agribusiness.

Zungu Investments – 23%

Sandile Zungu is the founder and chairperson of Zico, a black-owned private equity business with significant mining and non-mining interests, which is the holding company of his business interests.

Coalzar (Pty) Ltd – 8%

Coalzar is a broad-based, majority historically disadvantaged South African (HDSA)-owned company representing the interests of its shareholders focused on coal mining in the country.

Employee/community trust

Employee and Community Trusts

The Group’s mining rights are held in Seriti Power and unencumbered shareholding of 5% in the SP Employee Trust established for the benefit of employees and 5% in the Seriti Power Community Trust, established for the benefit of the members of communities adjacent to Seriti’s mining operations.
