Kriel Colliery is an underground mining complex, located 45km south of eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. It provides around 4.01Mtpa of thermal coal directly to Eskom’s Kriel power station.
Kriel Colliery is an underground mining complex, located 45km south of eMalahleni in Mpumalanga. It provides around 4.01Mtpa of thermal coal directly to Eskom’s Kriel power station.
The colliery uses mechanised bord-and-pillar methods to mine the underground operation.
Kriel employed 2 268 people as at 31 March 2026.
Established in 1975, the mine has sufficient resources to supply the Kriel power station until 2037.
Seriti acquired the mine from Anglo American in 2018.
