New Denmark is an underground colliery, located around 30km north of Standerton in Mpumalanga. It provides around 4.39Mtpa of thermal coal to Eskom’s Tutuka power station.
New Denmark is an underground colliery, located around 30km north of Standerton in Mpumalanga. It provides around 4.39Mtpa of thermal coal to Eskom’s Tutuka power station.
New Denmark is one of South Africa’s deepest coal mining operations, operating to a depth of 200m. It is a mechanised operation with 12 CM sections.
New Denmark employed 2 693 people as at 31 March 2026.
Commissioned in 1982, the mine has sufficient resources to supplying coal to the Tutuka power station until 2035.
Seriti acquired the colliery from Anglo American in 2018.
